The different types of load securing: form-fit, force-fit and combined load securing
Observing and implementing load securing regulations is crucial for the safe transport of goods on the road. In this article, we take a look at the current legal regulations, the types of load securing and present tried and tested solutions from Sortimo.
The legal regulations on load securing are set out in Section 22 of the German Road Traffic Regulations (StVO). This states that loads and the associated securing devices must be stowed and secured in such a way that they cannot slip, fall over or otherwise cause danger even in the event of emergency braking or sudden evasive manoeuvres. The driver, owner and shipper are all responsible for ensuring that the load is properly secured.
The VDI 2700 guideline from the Association of German Engineers serves as a technical recommendation and guide for engineers, vehicle manufacturers and logistics companies.
Types of load securing
There are three types of load securing: force-fit, form-fit and combined load securing. Combined load securing is a combination of force-fit and form-fit. The form-fit variant proves to be more advantageous and differs from the force-fit variant in some respects. However, the decision as to which of the three load securing methods to use must be made according to the situation and circumstances.
Form-fit load securing
Goods are loaded directly onto the front wall, rear wall or side walls with as few gaps as possible. If necessary, lashing straps, tension beams or load securing nets are used for additional securing.
Force-locking load securing
The load is pressed onto the loading surface with lashing equipment, which increases friction. At least two lashing straps are usually required to tighten the load.
Combined load securing
If form-fit or force-fit load securing alone is not sufficient, combined load securing is an option. In this case, the load is first loaded in a form-fit manner and then secured using force-fit aids such as load securing nets or lashing straps.

These poles enable customisable load securing, both vertically and horizontally, depending on the position of the lashing rails. All Sortimo lashing points have a permissible load capacity of 200 daN, whereby the load to be secured on side walls or partitions may have a maximum mass of 150 kg.
