From practice: little helper – big effect! The new hinged vice offers you these advantages in everyday work

A vice can often be worth its weight in gold when doing smaller jobs on site. Read here how the electronics company Fitschen from Lower Saxony use the new foldable vice in their everyday work.

You are often faced with the challenge of having to make adjustments to products while on site, but you have no way of securely holding them? A vice mounted directly to your racking van racking can be the perfect solution to ease the job in hand.

The electrical company Fitschen from Selsingen in Lower Saxony (Germany) has been using Sortimo’s new foldable vice since September 2020. This was installed together with the SR5 van racking in the two newly acquired Vauxhall Vivaro.

The new vice fits perfectly into the SR5 van racking and takes up significantly less space in the cargo area of my Vivaro than the previous model.

Sascha Denz Elektro Fitschen

Sascha, one of the two owners of the Fitschen company, speaks here about one of the great advantages of the new vice. When compared to the already known folded workbench, it is particularly suitable for smaller vehicles with little space in the rear area due to its low weight (14 kg including installation material) and the slim design. When folded, it hardly takes up any space in the commercial vehicle thanks to its compact size.

Dimensions of the hinged vice

  • Vice folded: 115 mm
  • Vice unfolded: 630 mm
  • Total height: 720 mm
  • Clamping range: 200 mm
  • Clamping height: 40 mm

The vice in the I.D. BUZZ

Particularly attentive observers among you already saw a prototype of our new vice in 2018 at the IAA Commercial Vehicles at the Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles world premiere of the I.D. BUZZ, the eBulli for craftsmen, discovered. Here it was integrated into the innovative concept of Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles. The great interest and demand have confirmed the potential – also for smaller commercial vehicles – which has confirmed us in making the folding vice ready for series production.

This is why we at Sortimo have further developed the vice, which is optically adapted to the innovative design of SR5, to market readiness and also made it available for the Globelyst4 van racking.

Sascha and his team use a vice in their everyday work

Sascha and his team use the vice several times a day, depending on the job.

“Regardless of whether it is shortening, bending or processing materials, the vice which makes minor work and adjustments on-site possible. It is quick and easy to use”, says Sascha.

“Regardless of whether it is shortening, bending or processing materials, the vice which makes minor work and adjustments on-site possible. It is quick and easy to use”, says Sascha.

“We mainly use the vice to shorten cable ducts or cable and insulating pipes, but also for adjustment work on smaller materials. We clamp these in place and can adjust them safely with the angle grinder or a file.”

However, Sascha does not only use the vice for processing materials. “It is also ideal for storing tool cases and L-BOXXes on the work surface. This is particularly practical because we can quickly remove individual tools.” 😉

With three different installation positions that can be selected, the vice can be attached individually to the side profile – both on the driver and passenger side – of your van racking, which also provides space for the installation of other accessories.

As a small improvement, I would like to see a way to put a larger worktop on top of the work surface.

Your way to the vice

You can integrate the hinged vice when planning your new SR5 or Globelyst4 van racking or have it attached to your already installed shelving system at a later date.

For SR5 there is even the option of planning this directly online when configuring in mySortimo configuration. Try it out now.

Sascha’s conclusion on the hinged vice

The vice is a clear asset for us in our daily work. It is of high quality, takes up little space in the rear and is also very easy to operate. It can be unfolded with one hand but this requires more effort, I would definitely recommend the product.
